Hooray for Holyrood as Suzanne Mackie bags a Young Communicator nomination

I’m delighted for Holyrood young gun, Suzanne Mackie, who received the news this week that she has been shortlisted for a prestigious PR award.

Suzanne, 22, joined Holyrood PR in September after a spell as a news reporter on the Aberdeen Evening Express.

Just a few months later she is one of five promising young PR professionals to be nominated for the CIPR Scotland Young Communicator Award, for her outstanding work promoting two very different clients.

Among her many successes since joining Holyrood, Suzanne chose to submit her work with the cage fighting promoters, Max Xtreme Fighting and her efforts on behalf of subsea firm, Rotech.

Both tough clients, so the extensive coverage she racked up on behalf of each shows just how good she is.

Holyrood has already produced a Young Communicator winner, after former staffer David Connor (a lapsed blogger!) picked up the title for 2005/06. Sadly the uber-talented Mr Connor recently moved on, to pursue his real passion – golf.

He is now working with my former Daily Record colleague Pete Richardson at golf marketing group, the Azalea Group.

I think we can also claim a hand in helping to shape another of the Young Communicator nominees – Aileen Cowden from the press office at NHS Lothian, who until October 2007 was plying her trade with Deadline Press & Pciture Agency.

As well as obvious talent, there are few other attributes which Suzanne and Aileen (and David before them) share – modesty, honesty and no fear of hard work.

I wish them both the best of luck for the big night – which will take place at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Edinburgh on November 20.

If either of them take the top prize I will expect a mention in dispathces during a suitably gushing acceptance speech (click here for a list of emotional Oscar accpetance outbursts)
