Amazing pics in the media earlier this week of a new, slimline Andy Fordham who is almost unrecognisable after losing more than 10 stone as part of a health kick.
Drastic action was called for after the 31 stone darts maestro suffered a string of health scares, including a stroke.
I don’t know Andy personally, but we have a mutual friend in the shape of Inverness hotelier, Derek MacLachlan, who runs both the North Kessock Hotel and the Redcliffe Hotel and is the epitome of warm Highland hospitality.
Big Andy stays at the Kessock whenever the darts tour brings him to the Highlands and as you’d expect is a bon viveuer who is great fun to be around. So I know Derek will be delighted to hear his old pal is on the mend and boasting a new lightweight look.
Not least because it means he will no longer have to worry about the big man cracking the lavvy seat whenever he comes to stay – as happened on two previous visits.
At the time everyone saw the funny side, but Andy has since seen a much darker side of being overweight. No doubt he will be more relieved than anyone that his bulk is no longer a threat to throne.
Certainly been a great competitor for many years and to lose that amount of weight is one of his best battles.
